Message From the President

November is a month for expressing gratitude and I am thankful for the nurses around the world who provide home-based care that helps patients remain in their homes, where they want to be, when they receive healthcare. I am also grateful to IHCNO members who have made IHCNO a premier organization for professional nurses. Three weeks ago, I became aware that IHCNO is recognized as a prestigious international organization of professional home-based nurses when the U.S. Department of Justice asked for a meeting with me, as IHCNO President, to learn about nurses and home care. The Justice Department is a federal executive department of the United States tasked with the enforcement of federal law, and they wanted to hear from nurses about how a proposed merger of a large home healthcare provider and an insurance company might affect nurses. The four Justice Department representatives were seeking background information and had many questions about what home care nurses did and the type of services they provided in the home. IHCNO was viewed as an organization that could provide an honest perspective of home care.

IHCNO continues to experience exciting growth, and we will share our news in monthly newsletters to keep you informed about IHCNO activities, planned events, and opportunities for members to take part in projects and committees.

One of our important programs is the annual Marilyn D. Harris Research Grant. We are pleased to announce the 2025 award recipient, Yuting Xia (Primary Investigator) and Shanshan Wang and Janelle Yorke, and Yuqian Luo with the study entitled Non-pharmacological interventions to improve the sleep disturbances of people with subjective cognitive decline: A protocol of systematic review and meta-analysis. Yuting Xia is a PhD student at the School of Nursing, Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

This month we highlight the IHCNO Education Committee. This committee’s workgroups will include projects to advance home-based nursing knowledge in clinical care, management, student education, new-hire orientation and mentoring programs, and specialty certification. In the coming months, we will offer webinars on cutting edge topics to improve your clinical practice. Also in each newsletter, we will feature IHCNO members and why they love home-based nursing. We want you to be an active member of our community. We welcome you to become an individual or organizational member. You can communicate with us by emailing info@IHCNO.org.
